Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is the plan funeral insurance cover?
A. No. It is a plan that allows you to pay the exact amount of your pet's cremation cost at today's prices
over a period of time with no interest ever. It is not insurance although it has some features of insurance cover. For example,
if your pet should die before your Plan is fully paid up but after you have made your first quarterly payment, all future
paymenst are waived and you have no more to pay. With insurance cover, everyone pays a little more to covet the risk of some.
The PFPA plans are not insurance plans becy by PFPA, not by other plan holders.
Q. Under my Plan can I send my pet to the pet crematorium of my choice whan the time comes?
A. In order to quarantee you the best service at the most reasonable price, PFPA arranges on-going contracts with
pet crematoriums. As it is not possible to have contracts with all and every crematorium, your choice of crematorium may not be
available. What you can be sure of is that you will recieve the best possible service at the best available price.
Q. How do Plan prices compare with dealing directly with a pet crematorium?
A. Prices of services compare very favourably and in many cases are less than if you were to deal directly
with the pet crematorium. In addition, your prices are fixed, so price rises will not affect how myuch you pay.
We suggest that you contact some pet crematoriums and compare the prices for yourself.
Q. The cost off creamtion wil increase before I will need that service for my pet. Will my payments increase?
A. No. Your cost is fixed at today's prices and you have nop more to pay than the total amopunt of your plan.
That brings you peace of mind knowing that there will never be more to pay and no interest ever.
Q. Can I change my Plan once i hve set it up?
A. Your Plan is in place to meet your needs so you may vary it if and when you need to.
While it is a good idea to plan well in advance for this type of occurrance, your Plan is not inflexible. You may vary your plan
at any time - even at the last minute - provided the changes to the Plan do not remove the basic cremation service.
for example, you may deccide to change from a polished box to an urn.
Q. Are there any hidden costs involved in the Plan?
A. There are no hidden costs. All costs are fully disclosed in your Plan. You pay only the current price
for the service you select. You pay no interest and once the initial payment has been made the balance is divided into equal
quarterly payments over the period you select. Because the price is fixed, you may save a lot by having your Plan in place
well before it is needed.
Q. Who do I need to contact if my pet dies?
A. There is just one number to ring and that is the PFPA direct line 1300 813 091. You need to let us know
when and from where the pet is to be collected and we will contact the pet crematorium to arrange the collection. We or they
will contact the vet if there is one involved and we will confirm your details with you to note any last-minute changes or
additions to your chosen Plan.
Q. Is there anything else I should do once I have my Plan in place?
A. Yes, there a couple of important things.
- Make sure your vet knows that you have a PFPA Plan for your pet or pets. In your application you will be asked to provide the
name and address of your regular vet. PFPA will send a letter to the vet you nominate informing tham that yuo have initiated a
fuleral plan for your pet. This letter, which your vet will file with your other information, also instructs tham not to
dispose of your pet but to phone PFPA on your behalf. PFPA will than contact you to confirm your wishes and your details. Be sure to
let us know if you change your vet.
- If you have a cat or a dog, attach your special PFPA tag to your pet's collar. This tag carries the PFPA logo and our 1300 number
as well as an identifying number for your pet's Plan. If your pet is lost or meets with an unfortunate accident, a call to our 1300 number
will allow us to identify your pet and contact you.
Q. What happens after I phone the 1300 number and tell you that my pet has died?
A. Your pet will be collected as quickly as possible from yor home or your vet or wherever the pat may be
any time, day or night, 24/7. Generally, the collection is done by the pet crematorium involved, but it may be by an independent collection
agent of the crematorium or by a PFPA agent. The crematorium will arrange the cremation and prepare the ashes for return to you in
a sealed bag, a polished box or an urn, depending on your choice in your Plan. The collection of your pet and the return of the ashes to you
will be included in your Plan and thee will be no more for you to pay. Your pet's ashes will usually be delivered to you personally or if
you live in a remote area, via post or a courier. If you wish, youcan arrange with the crematorium to collect the ashes from them.
Q. How long will it be before I get my pet;s ashes back?
A. Generally, within a few days the ashes will be returned to you. Allow a little longer where postage or
couriers are involved.
Q. I have my own container for the ashes. How will they be returned to me?
A. If you have your own container for the ashes or you wish to scatter or bury the ashes, they will be returned to you
in a seales scatter bag; otherwise they will be returned in a polished box or an urn.
Q. How do I know that the ashes I get back are the ashes of my pet?
A. Generally, reputable crematoriums issue a certificate guaranteeing that all pets are cremated individually and
that the ashes you receive are the ashes of your pet alone. PFPA deals only with crematoriums whose work practices
are of the highest standard, who have quality controls in place and whose operations are open to scrutiny. This is your assurance of best practice.
Q. What happens if my pet dies before I have paid all of the quarterly payments?
A. Provided yo have made your initial payment and one quarterly payment all future payments will be waived and you will have no more to pay.
Inthe event of your pet dying in the first 3 months you will be expexcted to make one quarterly payment.
Q. What happend if my pet becomes lost or I move interstate? Do I have to keep on paying and do I lose the payments I have already made?
A. In the event of an occurance that renders the Plan useless to you, such as your pet becoming lost or stolen or you have to move to an area not coveed by your Plan
you may request a refund of your quarterly payments. The initial payment is exempt from this refund offer but generally you can expect a full refund of the
quarterly payments less a small administration fee.
Q. Can I cancel my Plan at any time?
A. Other than for special reasons such as the loss of your pet or your moving to an area not covered by the Plan
or for some unforeseen happenstance that would make a refund reasonable, your Plan is non-cancellable and unless special dispensation is given, no payments will
be refunded.
Q. What can I do if I cannot make the quarterly payment?
A. If you default on your payments for more than two quarters your Plan will lapse and you will not be entitled to refund of payments made to that date.
If you have difficulty you should contact us immediately so we can make special arrangements like suspending your payments for a while.
Q. What if I decide I want to pay out the total amount of the Plan before the period has finished?
A. No problems. You may pay out the total owing at any time.
